StructureFISHBOOST consists of 8 workpackages (WPs) and two expert committees. The project focuses on the 6 main finfish species.
WP 1 - Disease ResistanceThe genetic basis of important disease resistance traits for the six target species will be quantified. The genetic architecture of the traits will be evaluated with the use of genomic tools. Focus will be on specific exemplar viral, bacterial and parasitic diseases.

WP 2 - Production efficiency
The definition and recording of production efficiency traits will be improved. Traits for indirect selection for feed efficiency and fillet percentage, and non-invasive recording tools, will be developed.
WP 3 - Genomics tools
Genomics tools to support WP 1 and WP 2, and optimisation of breeding schemes, will be developed.
WP 4 - Optimising breeding schemes
Optimum breeding programmes will be determined for each of the six species Atlantic salmon, common carp, European seabass, gilthead seabream, rainbow trout and turbot. Software tools will be developed to optimise the choice of base population and to control rates of inbreeding with practical aquaculture contraints.
WP 5 - Producer perceptions of aquaculture breeding
Clarification of the perception of the new breeding and genetics knowledge among producers.
WP 6 - Economic assessment of breeding programs
An economic assessment that estimates the economic impact of the project. Besides, the economic feasibility of the proposed breeding programmes will be estimated. Relative weights that should be given in the genetic improvement of novel and traditional traits will be assessed.
WP 7 - Delivering impact: training, communication and dissemination
Demonstration, implementation and dissemination of the results to the industry partners (incl. SMEs) of the project. The results will be demonstrated and disseminated externally.
WP 8 - Management
The management work of this large-scale project, with 26 partners, will be performed under WP 8.
