In the spotlight
Adrián Millán Pérez D.V.M., Ph.D. - manager at Geneaqua, Spain
What is your contribution to the FISHBOOST project?
Geneaqua is responsible for the genomic analysis of turbot challenged with the parasite Philasterides dicentrarchi, constructing DD-RAD libraries and genotyping offspring to investigate the genetic architecture of the disease resistance traits, estimating their heritability, for developing and applying new genomic strategies in breeding programmes.
What fascinates you in this project?
In this project we are setting the foundations for the future of breeding in aquaculture, and it is fascinating to participate in the development of new techniques and methodologies.
Being in the FISHBOOST project also allows us to learn, share and apply knowledge with leading experts of European aquaculture; be at the forefront of aquaculture development and feel part of it.

What are your expectations? I expect to succeed in developing new genomic methods to obtain molecular markers for the deep study of the turbot genome, and finally applying results on breeding programmes to reduce the incidence and impact of the disease in commercial aquaculture, increasing the production efficiency. |
