FISHBOOSTSEL – a software tool to select the proper individuals in an ongoing breeding programme
FISHBOOSTSEL, a software tool to select individuals in an ongoing breeding programme, is developed by Nofima within the FISHBOOST project. The FISHBOOSTSEL software selects parents and assigns matings. It maximizes genetic gain while setting a restriction on the average relationship and thus on the rate of inbreeding. It is based on the optimum contribution selection method and can handle discrete and overlapping generation structures. Minimum co-ancestry mating at individual or group levels can be assigned. This tool can be useful for all European aquaculture species.
The files of FISHBOOSTSEL can be run in either WINDOWS or LINUX environment. Below are the links to the manuals and different files that are needed to run the software.
fishboostsel.bat- this file will run the executable file, and will ensure that you see progress in a window
fishboostsel.exe- the executable file
fishboostsel.inp- the steering file for running fishboostsel
fishboostsel.dat- the data file
fishboostsel.ped- the pedigree file
To run the program: double click on fishboostsel.bat to run the program. Ensure that fishboostsel.exe, fishboostsel.inp and the data files are available.
The executable and example files are zipped into a –tar file.
To unzip, type gunzip fishboostselnet_.tar.gz, then tar xvf fishboostselnet_.tar. To run the programme type ./fishboostsel .
Ensure that the fishboostsel.inp and the data files are available.
The BASEPOP and FISHBOOSTSEL are developed and owned by Nofima. Access and use of the software is free of charge. Nofima can not be held responsible for the results coming when using the software.
