Annual meetings

Annual meeting 2017   April 2017

This year, the General Assembly of the FISHBOOST project took place on 5-6 April in Vodnany in the Czech Republic. Here the University of South Bohemia is located and they were the FISHBOOST partner that organised the meeting. 50 participants from the 26 project partners gathered to share results and upcoming activities with each other.

On 5 April, the meeting kicked off with a warm welcome by Anna Sonesson, project coordinator, and Martin Kocour, our host. During all presentations, special attention was paid to delivering impact from the project. To get an impression of the work that is done in Vodnany, a visit was organised to the Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters facilities. The day ended with a visit to the Budweiser Budvar breweries and a very nice dinner, sponsored by Klatovske Rybarství A.S., also a partner in the project. A special thanks to them!

On the second day, Pieter Knap from Genus PIC was invited as a guest speaker to share his thoughts on the similarities and differences between pig and fish breeding for improved feed efficiency. It proved to be a very interesting and educating contribution to the meeting!

All in all, the 2017 General Assembly was a successful meeting and we would like to thank all the participants, speakers, organisers and sponsors for making it so!!

FISHBOOST had its annual General Assembly in Heraklion (Crete) on 26-27. April. Nearly halfway through the project, almost all the experiments are carried out and a number of analyses are well underway.

50 participants from the 26 partners met over a two day general meeting to share results. Preliminary results from the eight work packages were reviewed through about 40 presentations. The atmosphere was very good and there were lively and interesting discussions.  Surrounded by 22 degrees, a wealth of tavernas and happy Easter celebrating Greeks certainly added to the success of the meeting.

The Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR) hosted the meeting, including a very interesting visit to the HCMR research station. They did a great job!

Annual meeting 2015   January 2015

Participants of the General Assembly gathered at INRA in Jouy-en-Josas to share information at the first FISHBOOST Annual Meeting in January 2015.

Many thanks to the local organisation at INRA, which was led by Dr. Edwige Quillet, and the French industry partners for sponsoring the evening dinner. An update of the activities of the different workpackages was given and there was the possibility to visit the labs of INRA and Labogena DNA in Jouy-en-Josas.

Kick-off meeting   February 2014

FISHBOOST started February 11th 2014 at the host institute Nofima ‒ the Norwegian Institute of Food, Fisheries and Aquaculture Research, with research, industry and NGO partners from nine European countries.

The meeting was opened by Professor Trygve Gjedrem from Nofima, a selective breeding pioneer who was instrumental in developing the first family based breeding programme in aquaculture for Atlantic salmon. He pointed out that in 2010 only 10 percent of world aquaculture production was based on genetically improved stock from family based breeding programmes. “I think this is a shame”, he said.

The project will address the cost benefits of implementing selective breeding in aquaculture production. “We believe we will find some answers to what it takes to increase the 10 percent, and guide aquaculture producers to implement selective breeding in their production”, says Anna Sonesson from Nofima, coordinator of the project. - Press release
